About

“Fetch the Pliers” is an instrumental song by Californian powerviolence band Infest. Dionysius of Alexandria reports, in one of his letters, that saint Apollonia had her jaw fractured and her teeth pulled out with pliers by the henchmen of emperor Decius. This blog is something like an imagined dialogue between the Christian culture of late antiquity and powerviolence: an attempt to criticize the establishment violently while rejecting violence, or to promote resistance even under threat of death.

My favorite thinkers are, apart from Plato and Aristotle (whom I consider to be a Platonist and idealist), Plotinus, Hegel, Paul Tillich, Nāgārjuna, Vasubandhu, Christian Ferdinand Baur, Evagrius Ponticus, and Rudolf Bultmann. I also enjoy reading Homer and Pindar. My favorite book of all times if probably Thomas a Kempis’s Imitatio Christi.

Apart from books, I dig hardcore music and metal, especially Boston hardcore, powerviolence, traditional heavy metal and NWoBHM. My all-time favorite bands are Motörhead, SSD, Tygers of Pan Tang, and Siege. But I also enojy death metal a lot, for example Autopsy, Repulsion, and early Sepultura.
